Before gaining prominence in the music industry, Abdullah was known by his stage name, The Imaginary Poet.[1]
Career

[edit]Abdullah began his musical journey in 2020 with the release of his debut single, "Jhelum".[2] He quickly established himself as an artist who explores diverse genres, including Blues, Psychedelic Rock, Dream Pop, Funk, R&B Soul, Sufi Rock, and Ghazal. His debut album, Lost;Found, was released in 2024, followed by the album Riqqat and singles like "Ehsaas" and "Ishq" in 2025.[3]
Film and poetry work
[edit]Beyond music, Abdullah is also recognized for his work as a filmmaker and poet. He is the founder and CEO of NH1 Films, a film production company based in Srinagar, Kashmir. His filmography includes writing for Baalyaaro (2020) and Jhelum (2020).[4] He is also active as a poet, often incorporating poetic elements into his songwriting.
Breakthrough with "Saiyaara" (2025)
[edit]Abdullah achieved significant mainstream success in 2025 with the song "Saiyaara", the title track for the film of the same name. He co-composed and sang the song alongside his longtime collaborator, Arslan Nizami. The duo, both from Kashmir, gained attention for their independent journey into the mainstream music industry, having initially pooled their savings to travel to Mumbai and seek opportunities. Their meeting with composer Tanishk Bagchi on the 13th day of their 14-day trip led to their involvement in the film's soundtrack.[5]
