Eve's Weekly Miss India was a national pageant in India organized by a Bombay based magazine Eve's Weekly that sent its winner to compete globally at Miss World and Miss International pageants from 1959 to 1988.[1]. The Eve's Weekly was owned by the Somani group. The pageant sent its winner to Miss World from 1959 to 1966 and a runner up to Miss International from 1960 to 1962. After Reita Faria's historic win at Miss World, a separate pageant, Bharat Sundari was held to send the delegates to Miss World and Eve's Weekly started sending its winner to Miss International. The pageant sent its winner to Miss International from 1966 to 1988 after that Femina Miss India got the franchise to send India's representatives to Miss International.[citation needed]
History and Pageant
[edit]The first edition of Eve's Weekly Miss India pageant was held in 1959. Fleur Ezekiel of Mumbai was crowned the first ever Miss World India. She represented India at Miss World 1959.
In 1966, Reita Faria was crowned Eve's Weekly Miss India. She represented India at Miss World 1966 and became the first Indian and Asian to win the Miss World crown. This was the last edition of the Eve's Weekly Miss India pageant where the winner was crowned as Miss India World. After that Bharat Sundari held the franchise for Miss World in India]from 1968 to 1975, and Eve's Weekly started sending its winner to the Miss International pageant.
In 1976, Eve's Weekly organized the first and only male beauty contest called "Indian Prince." Deepak Parashar won the title of Indian Prince, while Nafisa Ali was crowned Miss India 1976 in the same contest. It was the only year this pageant was held[2][3].
