Ema Balaško (born 12 December 2004) is a Croatian professional handball player who plays as a pivot for RK Lokomotiva Zagreb and the Croatia women's national handball team.
Club career
[edit]Balaško began playing handball at the age of six with her hometown club RK Podravka Koprivnica, progressing through all youth categories. She later spent three seasons with ŽRK Zrinski Čakovec, where she established herself as a promising young pivot and a regular member of Croatia’s youth national teams.[1]
In June 2024, Balaško signed with ŽRK Bjelovar as one of the club’s key reinforcements for the new season.[1] During the 2024–25 season, she appeared for Bjelovar in the EHF European Cup.[2] After one season with Bjelovar, she joined RK Lokomotiva Zagreb in 2025.
International career
[edit]Balaško was a regular member of Croatia’s youth national teams, including the U-17/U-18 and U-19 categories.[1] In May 2024, at only 19 years old, she was invited to her first senior national team training camp in Prelog. In September 2025, head coach Ivica Obrvan selected her for the international “Cheb Shield” tournament in Cheb, Czech Republic.[3]
She made her senior debut for Croatia at the Cheb tournament in a 36–29 win against Turkey.[4] Following her debut, Obrvan announced that Balaško would be included in the national squad for the upcoming 2025 World Women's Handball Championship.[5]
