Echthromyrmex sehitlerolmez is a species of antlion in the family Myrmeleontidae, described in 2008 by Turkish entomologists Ahmet Ömer Koçak and Muhabbet Kemal. The species was discovered in southeastern Turkey and named in honor of fallen Turkish soldiers, as the epithet şehitler ölmez translates to "martyrs do not die" in Turkish.[1][2]Although originally described as a distinct species, subsequent taxonomic revisions have treated Echthromyrmex sehitlerolmez as a junior synonym of Echthromyrmex platypterus (McLachlan, 1867).[3]

Taxonomy

The species was first described in the Miscellaneous Papers series of the Centre for Entomological Studies, Ankara.[1] The holotype, a female specimen, was collected from Yeşiltaş Gorge, Yüksekova District, Hakkâri Province, Turkey, at an elevation of about 1,500 metres on 27 August 2003.[citation needed]

Location

The species has been recorded from southeastern Turkey, within the mountainous regions of Hakkâri Province.[4]
