Drew Cain (born 19 June 1971) is a Scottish actor,[1] known for his portrayal of James Herriot Senior in the Channel 5 drama All Creatures Great and Small, and Alistair Banks in the Channel 4 soap opera, Hollyoaks.
Early life and education
[edit]Though Cain is from Glasgow, Scotland he spent his childhood in West Africa and Saudi Arabia[2]. He attended Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London.[2]
Career
[edit]Hollyoaks
[edit]Cain first appeared on Hollyoaks as D.S. Banks in August 2013 and sporadically appeared as a recurring character throughout the next decade. His character, now D.I. Alistair Banks, was announced as a regular cast member in January 2025.
DI Banks Storyline
[edit]In a recent twist[3], Banks was revealed to be a corrupt officer and the head of a criminal operation[4]. Despite posing as an upstanding citizen[5] and caring partner[6], suspicion has arisen around the character[7].
There has been much speculation across press and social media[8] about how Bank's storyline will play out[9].
All Creatures Great and Small
[edit]James Herriot Senior, Cain's character in All Creatures Great and Small, first appeared in the series' pilot episode You've Got to Dream.[10] Cain has appeared intermittently since, most recently featuring in season 5.[11]
