Distrofy or Distrofy Music Distribution is an independent digital music distribution and publishing service, launched in January 2024, focused on empowering creators in the global Islamic music industry. It offers tools for musicians, labels, producers, and other rights-holders to distribute and sell or stream their music through across major streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Facebook, Instagram, Amazon Music, Anghami, and others.

History

[edit]

Distrofy was founded in 2024 by Sadikul Masduk with the vision of creating a fair, commission-free, copyright-protective distribution model for Islamic musicians, labels, producers, Qur’anic reciters, and other rights-holders. The idea was born out of dissatisfaction with exploitative royalty practices and content mislabeling by mainstream aggregators.[1]

Initially launched as a local initiative for Bangladeshi artists, Distrofy quickly expanded internationally. By mid-2025, the platform reported over 300 active musicians from Bangladesh, Malaysia, the UK, and the Middle East.[2]

Features

[edit]

Distrofy provides a tailored suite of features for independent and faith-based music creators: Global Distribution – Delivery to major DSPs including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Anghami, Deezer, and Tidal.[3]

  • Islamic Metadata Support – Specialized tagging for Nasheeds, Qur’anic recitations, and other faith-oriented content.[4]
  • Royalty Splitting – Automated earnings distribution between collaborators.
  • DMCA Support - Protect artists’ music from abuse, unauthorized distribution, and complete copyright protection.
  • Commission-free model – Artists retain 100% of royalties with flat membership pricing.[5]
  • Support System – Built-in ticketing support for release issues, metadata corrections, and platform feedback.

Notable artists and labels

[edit]

Distrofy has distributed music for several recognized nasheed artists and labels associated with the Islamic music industry, particularly from Bangladesh. Some of the notable artists using the platform include:

  • Abu Rayhan – Bangladeshi nasheed singer and Director of Kalarab Shilpigosthi. He has released multiple digital nasheeds through Distrofy on Spotify and other platforms.[6][7]
  • Hossain Adnan – Prominent member of Kalarab Shilpigosthi, known for his popular nasheed releases and large digital following. His works are distributed globally via Distrofy.[8][9]
  • Tawhid Jamil – Nasheed artist and performer from the Kalarab Shilpigosthi, who has published digital nasheeds distributed by Distrofy.[10][11]

These artists, along with the Kalarab Shilpigosthi label, have significantly contributed to Distrofy’s visibility within the nasheed and Islamic creative community.

Reception

[edit]

Distrofy has been positively received by both the independent music community and tech media. It has been featured on startup platforms such as F6S[12] as an emerging player in digital media.

The platform has been praised for its minimalist UI, cultural sensitivity, and commitment to artist-first policies. It has also been commended for addressing longstanding distribution issues in the Islamic music ecosystem.
