Daryoush Gharibzadeh (Persian: داریوش غریبزاده; born 1962, Bushehr, Iran) is an Iranian filmmaker, author, and photographer. He is best known for his poetic and minimalist storytelling, focusing on cultural and social life in southern Iran. Over more than four decades, he has directed award-winning short films, created long-term documentary projects, published fiction, and conducted filmmaking workshops across Iran.[1][2][3]
Early life
[edit]Born in 1962 in the Behabani neighborhood of Bushehr, Gharibzadeh grew up in a large family. He began photography at age 14 while working in a printing press, later turning to filmmaking and literature.[4]
Career

[edit]Gharibzadeh has produced several award-winning short films. His film Boomerang received international acclaim and won awards in Iran and abroad.[5][6]

Documentaries
[edit]- The Last Girl (Akharin Dokhtar) – filmed over 14 years, portraying the life of a girl with Down syndrome in rural southern Iran.
- The Caveman (Mard-e Ghar-Neshin) – a 17-year project documenting cave-dwelling families in Bushehr Province.
Literature
[edit]He has published two collections of short stories:
- Tashbad – in local dialect, reprinted 11 times.
- Under the Tree of Babel – reached its fourth printing within five months.
Workshops
[edit]Over two decades, Gharibzadeh has led filmmaking workshops in more than 15 provinces, often in underserved areas, and served on juries for national short film festivals.[4]

Personal life
[edit]Gharibzadeh worked in printing before devoting himself fully to cinema and literature. He is married with three children and continues independent filmmaking and teaching.[1][4]
