Dafydd Pett (born March 2003) is a Welsh beekeeper and entrepreneur. He is the owner of The Welsh Honey Company, a family-run honey producer based in South Wales, and was named the winner of the BBC Countryfile Young Countryside Champion Award in 2025.[1][2] Pett is also a trustee of the Bridgend & District Beekeepers Association.[3]

Early life and background

[edit]

Pett grew up in Bridgend, South Wales. He began beekeeping at the age of 11 under the guidance of his grandfather, Mike Pett, who kept bees as a hobby since the late 1960s. Pett assisted at his grandfather’s apiary and later managed his own hive.[4]

The Welsh Honey Company

[edit]

In 2017, Pett inherited approximately 30 beehives following the death of his grandfather.[5] At age 15, with support from his family, he established The Welsh Honey Company.[6] The company produces raw honey using cold extraction and minimal processing. Products are sold online and through independent retailers and farm shops in Wales and the United Kingdom.[7]

Beekeeping and advocacy

[edit]

Pett is active in the Welsh beekeeping community.[8] As a trustee of the Bridgend & District Beekeepers Association, he manages digital communications including the website and social media.[9]

He has participated in educational outreach about sustainable beekeeping and represented young beekeepers at national and international events.[10] At age 16, Pett attended the International Meeting of Young Beekeepers in Slovakia.[11]

Recognition

[edit]

The Welsh Honey Company has received awards for food quality, including the Welsh Food Awards Produce of the Year.[12] Pett was also named the winner of the BBC Countryfile Young Countryside Champion Award in 2025.[1][2]

Other activities

[edit]

In addition to beekeeping, Pett works with digital and technical systems to support voluntary and community organisations connected with agriculture and conservation.
