DJ Wrex (real name Rex Balbuena) is a Filipino American DJ, turntablist, and event entertainer based in Los Angeles, California. He specializes in open-format DJing, technical scratching, and event entertainment. Wrex was profiled by the Los Angeles Times in 2025 as one of the region’s notable DJs redefining modern celebration culture.[1]

He was also featured in an interview with VoyageLA, which detailed his musical background, early life, and work as co-founder of Synergy Events Co.[2]

Early life and background

Balbuena began studying piano at age four and later learned trumpet, guitar, and drums.[2] He developed an interest in DJing after discovering turntablism and hip-hop during his teenage years.

DJ Wrex began performing at private parties and school events before expanding to venues throughout Hollywood, Las Vegas, Orlando, Utah, Austin, San Francisco, and Cancun.[2]

According to VoyageLA, Wrex has opened for or shared lineups with Pitbull, Busta Rhymes, D12, LMFAO, Pete Rock, Tech N9ne, Talib Kweli, Little Brother, The Pharcyde, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and members of the Wu-Tang Clan.[2]

He has also performed at prominent DJ events including The Do-Over and Motown Mondays.[2]

Wrex contributed a live DJ set to the World Famous Wake Up Show on KPWR 106 FM (Power 106) in Los Angeles.[2]
