Synopsis

The series centres on the Coast Guard team stationed at Lake Constance in Konstanz and their new boss, Inspector Nele Fehrenbach, who has returned from Hamburg to take charge of the Coast Guard team. At first, she is not welcome because her colleague Andreas Rambach had expected to become the new boss himself.

Background

[edit]

The series is produced by Saxonia Media Filmproduktion on behalf of ARD and filmed in Konstanz and Radolfzell on Lake Constance. The first season, consisting of 16 episodes, was filmed from 12 July to 7 October 2016 and from 6 July 2017 to 8 September 2017. The series premiered on 17 January 2017. [1]To be as realistic as possible, all the main actors obtained a Lake Constance boat licence. [2] [3]A second season, also with 16 episodes, was produced between 8 July and 28 September 2018 and between 25 April 2019 and 22 July 2019. [4] A third season with eight additional episodes was filmed between 8 July 2019 and 7 November 2019. A fourth season with 16 new episodes was produced from 17 June to 7 December 2020. [5]A fifth season with 12 additional episodes (57 to 68) was filmed between 9 June 2021 and 21 October 2021, and a sixth Season with 16 new episodes was filmed between 4 May 2022 and 8 November 2022, with the fifth season airing from 6 September 2022 on Das Erste and ending on 20 November 2022.[6] A seventh season with 16 episodes (85 to 100) was filmed from 10 May 2023 to 7 November 2023. It is scheduled to air from 15 October 2024. [7] An eighth season with 12 episodes (101 to 112) was filmed from 18 June 2024 to 30 October 2024, with no broadcast date announced yet. A ninth season with 12 episodes (113 to 124) has been filming since 17 June 2025 and is scheduled to continue until 29 October 2025. A broadcast date for the 9th Season has not yet been announced.

he series was produced in many locations around the lake. However, for logistical reasons, around 50% of the filming took place in Radolfzell on Lake Constance. Filming locations there included the clubhouse of the Wäschbruck water sports club (water police station), Villa Wolf on the Mettnau peninsula (home of the long-established Fehrenbach family from Konstanz) and the Friedrich Hecker Gymnasium (Franz Weber School). Other locations included the customs house in Bodman-Ludwigshafen (Swiss shipping police) and the former Siemens site in Petershausen (hospital).

There are several notable errors in the assignment of ranks and titles to insignia and shoulder straps. For example, Captain Aubry wears the rank insignia of a sergeant or adjutant (four or five chevrons) in various episodes of the series. However, the correct insignia for a captain would be three narrow braids (stripes). Jakob Frings, on the other hand, is introduced as a police sergeant, although he wears the shoulder pieces of a police chief inspector (three narrow stripes instead of four). Unlike Schott, Fehrenbach also wears a non-existent rank insignia (two wide stripes with three narrow stripes in between).

Spin-Offs

[edit]

A WaPo Berlin was announced in spring 2019. The first season, consisting of eight episodes, was filmed from May to August 2019 and aired in 2020. The second season, with another eight episodes, followed in 2021.

Filming for another spin-off began on 8 June 2021. WaPo Duisburg is produced by WDR and was first broadcast in 2022. [8]

The third spin-off, WaPo Elbe, has been broadcast on Das Erste since 14 February 2023. It is set on the Elbe between Dresden and the German-Czech border. The location is next to the Pirna Elbe bridge. Filming for the eight-episode first season took place from April to July 2022.[9] ==References== Reflist
