Castania is a Lebanese brand of packaged nuts and snack foods produced by Lebanese Roasting Group (LRG). Packaging World reported that the brand was launched in 1985 and has expanded beyond Lebanon to international markets.[1] L’Orient-Le Jour has also covered the company’s role in Lebanon’s nut industry.[2]

History

[edit]

According to Packaging World, Lebanese Roasting Group began producing roasted nuts in Beirut during the 1980s and launched the Castania brand in 1985.[1]

Operations

[edit]

In 2022, L’Orient-Le Jour reported that Castania operated four factories with an annual production capacity of about 12,000 tonnes of roasted nuts.[3] Packaging World has described Castania as "the leading Lebanese brand in the packaged nuts category".[1]

In 2018, Businessnews.com.lb reported that Castania began a US$7 million expansion of its facility in Hsoun, Jbeil. The project increased annual capacity to 10,000 tonnes and introduced automation. The same report noted that about half of the company’s output was exported to Arab countries, Europe, the United States, and Australia.[4]

Products

[edit]

Executive Magazine has noted Castania’s presence in the Lebanese snack market, citing its trail mixes and other blends.[5]

In May 2025, Executive Bulletin reported that Castania launched a peanut butter line in Crunchy and Creamy varieties. According to the article, production takes place in a new facility that meets ISO 22000 standards.[6]

Branding and marketing

[edit]

In 2019, ArabAd reported on Castania’s “Kel 2a3de fiya Castania” (“every get-together calls for Castania”) advertising campaign.[7] In 2024, Packaging World covered the brand’s updated packaging, which included new materials and formats to support export markets.[1]

Recognition

[edit]

In 2018, Forbes Middle East included Peter Daniel, CEO of Lebanese Roasting Group, in its “Lebanon 100” list of influential Lebanese business figures.[8]
