Buziga Parish is an administrative parish located in Makindye Division, within Kampala, the capital of Uganda. Situated on the slopes of Buziga Hill, the parish overlooks Lake Victoria and is one of the city's upscale residential areas. It is known for its affluent population, luxury homes, religious institutions, and proximity to major roads connecting to Ggaba and Munyonyo.[1]

Location

Buziga Parish lies within Makindye Division, approximately 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) southeast of Kampala Central. It borders Munyonyo, Ggaba, Konge, and Kansanga. The parish sits on the prominent Buziga Hill, one of Kampala’s highest points, offering panoramic views of Lake Victoria.[2]

Demographics

Buziga Parish has a mixed population of middle-class and high-income residents. The parish has experienced rapid real estate development due to its proximity to Lake Victoria and its location in one of Kampala’s more secure neighborhoods.[6]

Notable residents

Buziga is home to a number of Uganda’s prominent figures, including wealthy businesspeople, politicians, and professionals:

  • Godfrey Kirumira Kalule – Business tycoon, honorary consul of Namibia, chairman of the Kwagalana Group.[7]
  • Patrick Bitature – Entrepreneur and founder of the Simba Group of Companies.[8]
  • Hamis Kiggundu (Ham) – Real estate developer and CEO of Ham Group, owner of a lakeside mansion in Buziga.[9]
  • Gordon Wavamunno – Owner of Spear Motors and one of Uganda’s leading industrialists.[10]
  • Charles Muhangi (deceased) – Former national and African rally champion, who died at his home in Buziga.[11]
  • Mabonge Philip – LC3 Youth Chairperson of Buziga Parish.[12]
  • Amwiine Faisal – Parish Street Commander of Buziga.[13]
  • Members of the **presidential family**, ministers, MPs, and senior army generals are also known to own residences in Buziga.

Economy and infrastructure

The parish hosts a range of commercial and service establishments, including schools, health centres, hotels, restaurants, and churches. The lakeside location also supports recreational facilities and high-end residential estates.[14]
