Boyd H. Creasman is an American academic administrator and English scholar. He served as Provost of Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Maryland, from 2018 to 2025, and previously held academic leadership positions at West Virginia Wesleyan College.[1][2]

Education

Creasman earned a B.A. in English from Middle Tennessee State University and an M.A. and Ph.D. in English from Florida State University.[3]

Creasman spent over two decades at West Virginia Wesleyan College, where he served as Chair of the Department of English, Dean of the Faculty, Provost,[4] and Interim President from 2016 to 2017.[5] In May 2019, he delivered a public lecture titled Contemporary Literature from West Virginia for the West Virginia Humanities Council’s Little Lecture series, drawing on his scholarship in Appalachian literature.[6] He is also listed as Director of the School of Fine Arts and Humanities in a 2011 teaching and learning program.[7][8]

Mount St. Mary's University

In January 2018, Creasman became Provost of Mount St. Mary's University, overseeing academic programs, curriculum development, and faculty affairs.[9][10] He served in that role until 2025, when he transitioned to a faculty position as University Professor.[11]

Scholarship

Creasman is the author of Writing West Virginia: Place, People, and Poverty in Contemporary Literature from the Mountain State (2016).[12] His scholarship includes work on Appalachian and American literature.[13]
