Draft:BoldVoice

  • Comment: Hi, I'm not convinced this company meets the notability guideline for companies. Per WP:TECHCRUNCH and WP:FORBESCON, most of the sources here can't really be used to demonstrate notability. This draft is also somewhat promotional, please see WP:NPOV - everything on Wikipedia must be written in a formal, encyclopedic tone. Also, if you have any connection to the subject, including being paid, you have a conflict of interest that you must declare on your Talk page (to see instructions on how to do this please click the link). BoldVoice is an American educational technology company that develops a mobile application for English language learning focused on pronunciation and speech coaching. The application uses artificial intelligence to provide real-time pronunciation feedback, combined with short video instruction from professional accent coaches.

History

[edit]

BoldVoice was founded in 2021 by Anada Lakra and Ilya Usorov, who drew on personal experiences with challenges in achieving clear English pronunciation as non-native speakers.[1] The company participated in Y Combinator’s Summer 2021 batch.[2] A beta version of the app launched in July 2021 on Product Hunt, where it ranked second for the day.[3]

In March 2022, BoldVoice raised a $2.2 million from a seed round of funding from Flybridge, Xfund, and Liquid 2 Ventures.[4] In August 2023, it closed an additional $2.5 million round of financing.[5]

As of September 2025, the company had 7 full-time employees and reported annual recurring revenue exceeding $10 million, making it part of a group of small AI-focused startups achieving significant revenue with limited staff.[6]

Product

[edit]

The BoldVoice application provides pronunciation feedback using automatic speech recognition (ASR) and machine learning models. The software provides immediate, visual feedback on pronunciation, highlighting specific phonemes, intonation, rhythm, and stress that can be improved.[7][8]

In 2025, the company introduced Accent Oracle, a tool that classifies a speaker's accent of origin.[9][10][11] It also published its own technical research on how its machine learning model understands and quantifies accent strength to track its modification over time.[12]

Reception

[edit]

A 2023 review found that BoldVoice provided personalized pronunciation training tailored to a user's native language and an easy-to-use interface, but noted limited support for conversational practice.[13] A 2025 review published by researchers at the University of Hawaii at Mānoa concluded that the app features a comprehensive curriculum covering both segmental and suprasegmental features, and effective use of AI for feedback.[14]

A 2025 study published in the Journal of English Language and Education (JELE) reported improvement in students' pronunciation mastery after use of the app.[15] A 2025 classroom study also found positive student perceptions, with learners finding the app helpful for improving their pronunciation and building their speaking confidence.[16]
