Spink and Jake Weiner wer still attached to produce the film through BenderSpink, along with Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson.[7] On April 22, 2015, it was revealed that Tom Cruise and Michel Hazanavicius were circling to star and direct the film, respectively, but the studio had not signed any deals with them.[8] On July 27, 2015, Michael Chabon was hired to write the screenplay, while previous work had been done by Mike Bender, John August, Lowell Ganz, and Babaloo Mandel.[9] Bret McKenzie was also hired to compose the music for the film.[9] On January 22, 2020, it was reported that Channing Tatum has signed up to star in the film, as well as to produce it, alongside Reid Carolin and Peter Kiernan, through his company, Free Association, that Disney is currently searching for a new director and a new composer for the project, and that Loeb wrote a new draft for the film's script.[1] On September 8, 2025, Rudy Mancuso was reported to be directing the film, with Vinson still attached and Kristin Burr producing.[10]
