BGN Group / International is a privately held energy and commodities trading conglomerate based in Geneva, Switzerland. The group includes BGN International, BGN Energy, and BGN USA, and operates in over 100 markets through offices in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and North America.[1]

History

BGN traces its origins to the 1940s, when it began trading petrochemical products in Turkey and the Middle East. Through the 1980s and 1990s it entered European markets and diversified into refined fuels and logistics. In the 2000s and 2010s, the group opened offices in Geneva, Dubai, Houston, and Singapore, expanding into LNG and LPG trading.[2]

The company’s core activities include trading and storage of crude oil, petroleum products, LNG, LPG and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). It maintains regional offices in Geneva, Dubai, Singapore, Doha, Casablanca and Rotterdam.[3]

Sustainability and ESG

BGN supports transition fuels and low-carbon energy. It has worked with Mundo Verde Climate on carbon offset projects and participates in initiatives promoting access to clean energy in Africa.[4][5] The company reports goals including reduced direct emissions, dual-fuel vessel investments and compliance with CSRD standards.[6]

  • Pertamina International Shipping (Indonesia) – cooperation on construction of very large gas carriers.[7]
  • Abu Dhabi Financing Facility (2025) – US$232.5 million trade finance with Abu Dhabi Exports Office and First Abu Dhabi Bank.[8]
  • Mediterra Energy Corporation – 19.97 % stake in a Canadian energy firm.[9]
  • Al Seer Marine JV – established 2025 for midsize LPG and product tankers.[10]

Metals and critical minerals

In 2025 BGN International expanded into metals and critical minerals trading.[11] Reports by the *Western Journal* and *Global Policy Journal* described BGN’s creation of a metals desk in Geneva, a Singapore hub led by Daniel Yu (formerly of Squarepoint), and a Texas-based trading platform for African resources meeting U.S. standards.[12][13] BGN USA was formed to trade critical minerals including copper, aluminium, nickel, lithium and cobalt.

Media and scrutiny

In September 2025 *The New York Times* reported that family members linked to BGN owners had hosted Tiffany Trump on a yacht, an event both sides described as private and without business connection.[14] The *Financial Times* separately covered the company’s responses to inquiries about compliance with Libyan oil-trading rules.[15]
