Her younger brother Robin Da Silva is the founder of Niche Artefact in England where Ferrera is an art contributor. Niche Artefact is a Nottingham-based creative collective and non-profit community group that hosts art shows, live performances (including drag and burlesque), and exhibitions to support and nurture local artists, particularly within the LGBTQIA+ community which was nominated by the BBC Nottingham "Make a Difference Awards".
She spent her early years in Johannesburg, South Africa. At age 8, she moved to Madeira Island, Portugal where she would spend her formative years. She worked on the school newspaper and won a regional poetry prize. At age 15 she moved to London, England where she studied journalism and interior design. Thereafter, she got into photography and video.
Ferrera had many varying interests growing up, including fashion, photography, music, literature, travel and design, and did not initially intend to become a filmmaker. She had always made editorial and commercial reels and videos, however, after making a film-shoot with Portuguese singer Cuca Roseta, she realized "[she] wanted to give life to all the stories scribbled on post-its, napkins and notebooks in secret over the years", and decided to continue her directing pursuits and screenwriting. She have been featured in various news outlets in Europe[2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9] and Asia[1]. She is also a member of MUTIM[10] an Association for Women in Cinema, Portugal.
