Ann Birch is a Canadian writer, editor, and educator based in Toronto. She is known for her award-winning teaching career, her widely used textbook, Essay Writing Made Easy, and several historical novels set in early Toronto, then known as York.^[1]

Birch earned an M.A. from the University of Toronto in 1974. She worked for many years as Head of English in Toronto secondary schools and was named Teacher of the Year in 1995. She later served as an associate professor in teacher-training programs at York University and the University of Toronto.^[2]

Her textbook Essay Writing Made Easy by Pembroke Publishers became widely used resource in Canadian classrooms and received recognition for educational writing.
