Alex the Great was a Flemish Giant rabbit born in California, United States, known for his appearances at sporting and musical events, the rabbit had previously been invited to several Minor League Baseball games.[1]
Alex was rescued from a meat farm in Modesto, California during 2020,[2] where he was later adopted by Josh Row and Kei Koc with the aim of saving large breed rabbits for volunteer associations operating in hospitals and airports in the state. Alex would be certified as a therapy rabbit by the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.[3]
In 2022, Alex the Great participated as a therapy rabbit at San Francisco International Airport.[4][5]
At the end of July 2025, it was confirmed that Alex had passed away after battling cancer in Davis, California.[6]
Media appearances
[edit]Alex entered the sports scene after appearing at Oracle Park following a formal invitation from the San Francisco Giants. His appearance was covered by several TV broadcasts in California, as well as newspaper articles about animals in China, Japan, Peru, and the UK.[7] Later, Alex would be invited back to Oracle Park as part of a collaboration for the 2023 San Francisco Giants season.[8]
In addition, Alex had previously appeared at music festivals in California, where he and his owners were able to meet American artists such as Missouri singer Chappell Roan.[9]
