On May 11, 2025, the al-Qaeda-affiliated group Jama'at Nasr al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) launched a large-scale assault on Djibo, a strategic town in northern Burkina Faso. The attack began around 5:30 a.m. (UTC+0) and continued for much of the day. Several hundred militants, traveling on motorcycles and in vehicles, simultaneously targeted the military detachment, police stations, and gendarmerie posts. The military camp was overrun, looted, and destroyed.
