On August 30 2024 an army helicopter crashed into the River Douro in northern Portugal killing 5 people.[1] the Government announced a day of mourning after the crash. [2]
Incident
[edit]The helicopter reportedly crashed in the Douro river in front of tourists while it was returning from a firefighting mission killing 5 people.[3] The pilot was saved by a tourism boat nearby and was sent to hospital. [4]
Reactions
[edit]President Luis Montenegro declared a day of mourning on August 31 and visited the site of the incident[5]
Aftermath
[edit]The funeral for the victims took place on September 1. [6]
