Within groups having the same carbon count, the order is fairly intuitive, but the following exceptions have been noted:
This always pops up when only one atom of a kind is present: that entry will appear at the bottom of the list below all the others. For the same reason you will find C10H.... preceding C2H..... .
The situation arises as the sorting algorithm is based on the ASCII code of letters and numbers. As numbers have lower codes than letters, this counterintuitive situation arises.
