A Geji Ajahn is a Tai-Khmer term for a respected senior monk specifically from the Boran Kammatthana tradition of Theravada (though Theravada teachers from other regions can have esoteric knowledge as well) known for passing down both Buddhist teachings and specialized esoteric practices. Alongside guiding meditation and monastic discipline, they may consecrate amulets, inscribe protective yantras, chant powerful paritta and kata, and perform rituals like sak yant tattooing or spirit offerings. Some also share knowledge of astrology, sacred herbs, or ascetic practices connected to spiritual power along with understanding of the Khmer language and script (specifically in Thailand) for ritual purposes. These teachings, known as wicha, are treasured in certain lineages for their role in protection, healing, prosperity, and maintaining ancient traditions.
