Basem Jamal Abdo is an Australian politician who is the member for the federal Division of Calwell representing the Labor Party after the campaign for the seat in the 2025 Australian federal election.[1]
Biography
[edit]Abdo is Palestinian-Australian.[2] He was born in Kuwait to parents from the West Bank who found refuge in Jordan following the Six-Day War, and who ultimately moved to Australia in 1991.[3]
Prior to his election, he was an adviser to Maria Vamvakinou MP.[4] He was elected to succeed Vamvakinou in the 2025 election.[5] He is Muslim.[6]
