The BIMSTEC Games are a proposed multi-sport event to be contested among the member states of the BIMSTEC. The concept was announced in April 2025 during the 6th BIMSTEC Summit, where the Government of India offered to host the inaugural edition in 2027, coinciding with BIMSTEC’s 30th anniversary.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]

History

At the 6th BIMSTEC Summit held on 4 April 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi announced that India would host a BIMSTEC Athletics Meet in 2025 and the first BIMSTEC Games in 2027.[1] The Games are intended as a platform to deepen people-to-people contact, youth engagement, regional sporting cooperation, and connectivity within the BIMSTEC region.[1]
