Arcadia DeVille is a fictional character, a mutant appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. She first appeared in X-Force #83.
Fictional character biography
[edit]Arcadia Deville is a mutant with the ability to alter reality. As a child, the Damocles Foundation held Arcadia captive and experimented on her. She used her reality-altering powers to create a fantasy world where adventured for years, until she was released by Ulysses Dragonblood. They fled and eventually stopped in Kentucky, where they mistook Cannonball for a threat until members of the Damocles Foundation known as the Sword noticed their fight and tried to capture them.[1]
Arcadia sees that Cannonball had a photograph of X-Force (Siryn, Danielle Moonstar, Warpath, Meltdown, and Sunspot) and uses her powers to summon his friends, but the Sword takes advantage of the confusion and defeats X-Force. Cannonball and Meltdown stop the Sword, and Arcadia transforms some of them into crystal so that she can smash them. Moonstar touches Arcadia, trying to stop her, but Arcadia inadvertently shares her powers with her. Ulysses stops Arcadia, and the Sword members revert to their normal forms. Ulysses and Arcadia continue on the run with the Sword as prisoners.[2]
Arcadia begins having dreams about the Demon Bear. She and Ulysses go to Sledge's junkyard because they know that the Damocles Foundation intends to activate a Gatherer of the Celestials. X-Force also comes to the junkyard. They, Arcadia, and Ulysses travel to the Damocles Foundation's Brazilian base, where they free the captured Selene and Sunspot. They stop Odysseus Indigo from reawakening the Gatherer. When Selene takes possession of the Gatherer, Moonstar and Arcadia work together to destroy it.[3]
Arcadia, Ulysses and Sledge go back to the junkyard, but her out of control powers create the Demon Bear, which attacks them. Arcadia goes to find Moonstar in San Francisco, but the Demon Bear follows her. Arcadia being near Moonstar causes both of their powers to become uncontrollable again, and they are both trapped inside the Demon Bear before managing to destroy it.[4]
Absorbing the bear's energy overwhelms Arcadia. She loses control and is replaced by one of her creations from childhood which had come to life, until X-Force, Risque and Ulysses release her.[5]
Powers and abilities
[edit]Arcadia Deville can alter reality using images in her mind, and her powers have allowed her to teleport people, and also change people into another substance or another type of creature. The effects caused by her powers end when she is not conscious.
