Angels Don't Buzz (Russian: Ангелы не жужжат, romanized: Angely ne zhuzhzhat) is a 2024 Russian-Serbian[3] feature film directed and written by Alexander Seliverstov.[4]
The film premiered in July 2024 at the Gorky Fest Film Festival of new Russian cinema in Nizhny Novgorod, where it was presented in the competition program.[5] On September 18, 2025, it was officially released in Russia.[2]
Plot
[edit]Twelve complete strangers, mostly loners and outsiders, including an insurance agent, an accountant, a digital gravedigger, a homeless accordionist, and a designer, meet at a cooking workshop.[6] Meanwhile, a father and son drive through a monotonous autumn landscape. Their paths unexpectedly cross, and each plays a role in the other's fate.

Critical response
[edit]Film critic for Seans Gleb Kolondo noted: "Fortunately, Seliverstov doesn't teach anyone anything, doesn't convey any, excuse the expression, messages. With the enthusiasm of a child, he plays solitaire, a game of absurdist, inconsequential, and ultimately unintelligible daydreams".[7] Vladimir Rostovsky of Film.ru rated the film a 6 out of 10. In his opinion, "Angels Don't Buzz could perhaps be compared to the philosophical works of Roy Andersson or Aki Kaurismäki, with an added touch of national flavor... However, the forest is lost for the trees. Where Andersson distilled a disparate narrative into a unified (and logical) meaning, Angels Don't Buzz delivers only an uneven biblical reference tinged with mysticism".[8]
