American Doctor is an upcoming documentary film directed by Poh Si Teng in her feature directorial debut. The film follows three American physicians of diverse backgrounds who travel to Gaza to provide medical aid during the conflict.
It is scheduled to premiere in the U.S. Documentary Competition at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival.
Premise
[edit]The film chronicles the experiences of three American doctors—one Palestinian, one Jewish, and one Zoroastrian—who feel a professional and moral obligation to enter the Gaza Strip amid the ongoing war. Facing decimated medical infrastructure and threats to their personal safety, the physicians navigate the complex intersection of medicine and politics while attempting to save lives and bear witness to the humanitarian crisis.[2]
Production
[edit]The film is directed by Poh Si Teng, who previously produced the Academy Award-nominated short St. Louis Superman (2019). It marks her debut as a feature documentary director.[3]
The production team includes producers Kirstine Barfod (known for The Cave) and Reem Haddad, with executive producers Simon Kilmurry and Hamza Ali. The film features music by composer Suad Bushnaq.[2]
