Lieutenant General Ahsan Gulrez HI(M) is a three-star general in the Pakistan Army, currently serving as the Corps Commander of II Corps, Multan since November 2024. He previously served as the Director General Joint Staff at the Joint Staff Headquarters (JSHQ), Rawalpindi.[1]
Early life and education
[edit]Ahsan Gulrez is a graduate of the National Defence University, Pakistan, the Defence Services Command & Staff College in Bangladesh, and the United States Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
Military career
[edit]Gulrez was commissioned into the Pakistan Army in the late 1980s. He has held several important command and staff positions. From April 2017 to October 2018, he served as General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 34th Light Infantry Division, also known as the Special Security Division.
In October 2022, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed Director General Joint Staff at JSHQ.[2]
In November 2024, he was appointed Corps Commander of II Corps, Multan.[3]
International engagement
[edit]In March 2024, he led a delegation to Azerbaijan to discuss military cooperation.[4]
In April 2024, he visited Sri Lanka and met with General Shavendra Silva, the Chief of Defence Staff.[5]
Awards and recognition
[edit]Gulrez is a decorated marksman and has represented the Pakistan Army Shooting Team internationally since 2011. He holds seven national and one international long-range shooting record. He was awarded the President’s Award for Pride of Performance in 2024.[6]
